A great chat with Mike from Environmental Services!

🚛♻️ Had a great chat with Mike from Environmental Services! He was super helpful in answering my questions—here’s what I found out:
✨ Is there glass recycling in El Paso?
🔹 Yes! All Citizen Collection Stations accept glass, but the glass processing machine is broken. A replacement ($250K) is in the 2026 budget and expected by fall.
🔹 Until then, Target has convenient glass recycling bins at the front of the store.
✨ Why do some collection stations have helpful staff while others don’t?
🔹 Staff aren’t required to assist due to past worker’s comp claims—if they help, it’s because they’re being nice.
✨ Why do some recycling bins work and others don’t?
🔹 Every collection station has recycling, but bins sometimes break. Report issues to 915-212-6000.
✨ What else does ESD do?
🔹 Funded through water bill fees, they handle:
✅ Median maintenance – Weeds, tree trimming & irrigation repairs.
✅ Street sweeping – Downtown gets swept 4x a month.
✅ Anti-Graffiti Program – Free graffiti removal (report online!).
✅ Vector Control – Pest management & environmental health.
✨ What happened to the Black Belt program?
🔹 It’s being turned into an app for community involvement & events. Not sure another app is the best idea 🤷‍♂️.

🚧 Big Upgrades Coming!
The Doniphan & Northeast stations are each getting $5M renovations for easier access! Check out the new Eastside facilities now.
📢 Community Cleanups
They host clean-ups year-round, but need better social media promotion!
