I posted this on May 12, 2021, but thought to share again:
Did you know that El Paso has FREE Historical walking tours? I did a bunch in Barcelona and Paris and was excited to see that it’s also offered locally. I don’t know much about the Mexican Revolution and was intrigued to learn about El Paso’s role in it.
I’m not sure how I found out about the Tom Lea institute but they offered the tour and I went and glad I did. I learned something new, met new friends and neighbors and had a great lunch at Sabor.
Some info on the event that I attended: BERNIE SARGENT, FOUNDER OF SIX GUNS AND SHADY LADIES & DIRECTOR OF TEXAS HISTORICAL FOUNDATION WILL TAKE US ON A GUIDED ADVENTURE. ¡La Revolución Mexicana!Wednesday, May 12 | 10 a.m.
Did you know the Mexican Revolution was planned in El Paso? Join General Pershing (Bernie Sargent) and Pancho Villa (Vince Sanchez):
• See the building from which Francisco Madero and Pancho Villa planned the revolution and encounter the soda shop Pancho Villa frequented.
• Learn about the impactful friendship of Tom Lea and refugee José Cisneros.
• Explore the history of the disinfecting stations and refugee camp in El Paso.
They’re hosting some more guided tours on art etc and you can view the upcoming events here:https://www.tomlea.com/events
