Conflict of Interest in the between in our School District!

Israel Irrobali, the president of the El Paso Independent School District Board, is now the executive director of the El Paso Association of Contractors. 🤔
This group has received millions for construction projects in our schools. Sounds like a 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 to me! 💰💰
When he took the job, Irrobali promised he wouldn’t involve himself in issues that could create a conflict of interest. But guess what? He’s not keeping his word! 😒
Back in March, Irrobali promised to step back from board decisions involving his new organization. But guess what? He’s not keeping his word! 💔
The EPISD board has approved over $𝟐𝟓𝟕.𝟖 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 in contracts with companies linked to this association. 🤑
Now, Irrobali refuses to recuse himself from voting on closing 𝟏𝟎 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬! When asked about it, he boldly said, “No, I do not plan to recuse myself.” 😳
During a recent meeting, board member Alex Cuellar called him out, saying, “President Irrobali is the executive director of EPAC. I’m asking that he recuse himself from any votes.” 👀
The El Paso Teacher’s Association is hoping this will force Irrobali to reconsider his position. As De La Rosa said, “You either work for the El Paso Association of Contractors or you do your role on the board.” It shouldn’t be both! 🔍
The board will vote in November on whether to close those schools. 📅
Let’s not ignore this! Follow the money, El Paso! 💸 If schools have to close, shouldn’t we avoid obvious conflicts of interest? Come out and protest at the next meeting! Our kids deserve better than this! 🗣️✊
