With rates already about 14% higher than the national average, I’m lucky to have solar power, so I’m not as affected by these upcoming rate hikes. But with outages still happening, it makes me wonder—what exactly are they spending all that extra money on?
El Paso Electric is planning to increase rates, which could raise the average household bill by about $23 per month. They’ve submitted a request to the Public Utility Commission of Texas, arguing that the increase is needed to fund solar farms and infrastructure improvements
. But if we’re already paying higher-than-average rates, shouldn’t we be seeing more reliable service?

With data centers coming to the area, energy and water consumption are expected to skyrocket, and I believe costs will only keep rising
.
