Homestead Exemption Tax Updates…

🚨Did you know that Texas now requires you to verify your homestead exemption every 5 years? 🏡 If you receive a letter from your county appraisal district, don’t ignore it! Ignoring it could mean losing your tax exemption and paying more in property taxes! 😱

So, what is a homestead exemption? 🤔 It’s a tax break that allows Texas homeowners to have their property taxes calculated at a lower rate than the appraised or market value of their home. This can lead to significant savings!

But here’s the catch: under the new law, your homestead exemption can now expire! 😲 If you filed for it about 4 years ago like I did, it’s essential to check your status. I’m not leaving anything to chance—I’ll most likely visit the office in El Paso to ensure everything is 100%!

If you receive a verification letter:

1. Check your exemption status: Visit your county’s appraisal district website.

2. Respond to any verification letters: It’s crucial to act quickly to avoid losing your exemption.

3. Reapply if needed: If you lost your exemption, don’t worry! It’s a simple two-page process to get it back. Just ensure your state-issued ID matches your home address.

If you’re eligible to apply for the homestead exemption, please do! And if you already receive it, make sure it won’t expire anytime soon.
