A bipartisan committee just gave the green light to raise the homestead exemption to $140,000! This means potential savings of around $363 a year for many of us. Senate Bill 4 and Joint Resolution 2 are now headed to the full Senate, with strong support from Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. This move follows last year’s successful push to increase the school district tax exemption from $40,000 to $100,000, which saved homeowners an average of $700!
