Texas is experiencing a housing boom!
With nearly 4 million new residents in the past decade, the state is racing to build more homes to meet demand. Did you know Texas accounted for 15% of all new housing permits in the U.S. last year? That’s impressive!

However, new homes are getting smaller and more affordable, with the median square footage dropping by 5.3% since 2020. This means more homes priced below $350,000 are hitting the market, while higher-priced options are becoming less common. Many newcomers, especially from California, are drawn to Texas for its affordability, job opportunities, and favorable climate.

Looking ahead, projections suggest Texas will surpass California to become the most populous state by 2045, with an estimated population of 42 million.

But here’s the good news for El Paso: we’ve been ranked as the 4th most affordable city in the entire U.S.!
El Pasoans spend an average of $1,784 a month on essential bills, significantly lower than other Texas cities:

– San Antonio: $2,161
– Houston: $2,232
– Fort Worth: $2,249
Both El Paso and San Antonio allocate about 38% of their monthly income to these costs, making it a manageable place to live!
What do you think makes El Paso such a great place to call home? How can we tackle the housing affordability challenges in our city? Let’s discuss!
